Using Instagram to Promote a Blog

Instagram.

At one point in time, people actually looked at this fancy and super popular photograph app as a way to share pictures or expand their photography skills while using a cell phone as a camera.

But now that it has become another social media hub, Instagram is becoming a popular and important social media tool. Especially to bloggers.

You build followers, share pictures of your absolutely adorable children, promote photographs with hash tags, and of course conversation through the comment feature.

What many don’t understand or grasp is the powerful tool it has become for networking in a number of ways. Building blog followers, networking, driving blog traffic, meeting like-minded bloggers, and the list goes on.

Of course using Instagram in this way won’t be for everyone. Not all bloggers will want to use the program, let along use it to promote their blog.

In the past month I have seen some really great examples of using Instagram to promote blog posts. I also started doing it myself.

One of the best examples of using Instagram to promote blog posts has been from an awesome woman I met at BlogHer this year. Blessing, or as most know her in the blogging and Instagram world – ThinkFeminist.

Blessing always takes the time to take a photo of her latest blog post, and promote it on Instagram. Typically looking like this. In the comments of the photo she asks a question which is related to the post itself, and then includes a link to her blog. Genius! Be sure to go check out her website, Think Feminist.

When I work on a special graphic project for my site, I do the same. Either upload the graphic to my phone to post on Instagram, or just take a photo of my screen as I am working on it.

Believe it or not, it has helped to drive traffic to my site. It may not be a lot of traffic, but with 412 followers, it gets a couple bites.

There ya go!  Using Instagram to drive traffic and promote your blog! Just another form of social media y’all should be jumping onto!

Another great way to keep your blog fresh, and continue to keep the interest of visitors is using relevant photos to keep your blog visually appealing. Use photography skills to highlight your posts. It works, believe me!

Many people I know will actually click off of a blog because there are no photos, or the blog itself isn’t actually visually appealing to look at. So jazz it up!

If you use Instagram to drive traffic to your blog, link up your blog below!

  1. How sad is it that I do not have instagram? My phone won’t support it, but I upgrade in October, and I’ll be on the Instagram wagon soon enough!

  2. I always use my instagram in this fashion. My only difference is that I don’t put up EVERY post I do on there. I know my audience on each of my social media outlets, so I take advantage of that when posting content on each. On Instagram, posts about my kids tend to get me traffic back to my site. Pinterest loves food posts, facebook likes personal writing pieces. Instagram is a great tool to use and you’ve given us some awesome ways to use it. Thanks!
