I Shed a Tear, Then Registered Him For School

There are two lessons I have learned this week courtesy of my oldest son.

1) Motherhood is emotional.
2) School requires way more paperwork than I am interested in filling out.

Monday morning I rolled out of bed, got my boys to school, got a coffee, and headed to our local elementary school to register my pre-schooler for kindergarten.  It is a good thing a friend of mine called me and asked about elementary school registration, or I would have totally missed it… Who would think they do it in JANUARY?  – Maybe I am just too new to this? Should Pre-School Be Free?

I sometimes write for a local publication about issues parents are facing in Connecticut. Recently free pre-school programs became the topic of interest.

 

And quickly turned into a hot button issue full of mudslinging. Some parents accusing supporters of the idea of being welfare leaches, and well… you can get where the debate went!

 

Alas, most parents support the idea across the board-which is a total relief as a parent myself. I would never want a child to go without because someone may have a personal hangup about something. Would you?

The Post In Which I Confess My Love for Camden’s Teacher

Camden started pre-school this year. He loves everything about it! His friends, eating lunch at school with all the other kids, being a big boy, art projects… oh yeah… and his teacher Miss J. I am clearly masking her identity for privacy.

From the moment I met Miss J, she was the most calm, kind, and easy going teacher ever. And you could see how much all of the kids truly adore and love her.

We are almost half way through the school year, and I have to confess… I absolutely love his teacher. We could not have asked for a better pre-school teacher to prepare him for kindergarten next year. (more…)
