Stuck Up Working Moms Shame American University Professor

Friday, September 14th, 2012

This week in the national news brought out a new breastfeeding story. A professor at American University in Washington D.C. ran into a real life dilemma many working moms deal with, when her baby got sick, and her childcare fell through. Something that happens to a lot of mothers today.

Instead of freaking out and canceling class for the day, she did what most working mothers wish they would be able to do… bring their baby to work.

The story is a mix of shaming on the mother for bringing her child to work, and of course the typical breastfeeding in public.  You would think college students would know what breasts actually used for by the time they hit a major university, right? (more…)

Boobs Are For Babies

Tuesday, September 4th, 2012

This weekend our family took a trip to the 100th annual Goshen Fair here in Connecticut. It is a largely agricultural based fair showcasing livestock, fresh locally grown produce, tractor pulls, a carnival, anda lot of food.

We knew the kids would have a great time because they have a love for farm animals. Especially our oldest son Camden.

But it wasn’t until we got there, and started walking through the barns with the animals hanging out in between shows that my love for the fair started. (Which later concluded with a number of deep fried treats that sent me into a food coma for the night.)

First we walked through the stables with the five prize winning horses. They were the biggest horses I have ever seen in my life. One had to be damn near 10+ feet tall. SCARY as hell! (more…)

What the Hell Happened to My Boobs?

Tuesday, August 21st, 2012

Back in the day, I used to have really awesome boobs. No seriously, hear me out… I promise you will enjoy this post!

High school, post-high school,pre-kids.

I didn’t care that I sported a nice handful size b-cup. They were just enough, and on a four foot ten inch frame, anything bigger would have probably made me tip right over.

Everyone tried to warn me when I was pregnant with Camden that nothing on my body would ever be the same again. My boobs especially. Then it was everyone telling me that breastfeeding would ruin my tits. Ruin away! Because I was determined to breastfeed. And I did. (more…)

WTF Friday

Thursday, May 10th, 2012

From Time magazine to Bristol damn Palin… this week has been full of WTF moments. So many in the mainstream news that I almost can’t even believe I am actually writing this post.

First I am just going to say I am upset and ashamed for Time Magazine on their need to perpetuate more mom wars in order to actually sell magazines. I get that they have to do something to stay afloat these days since most people are getting their news online – but stop throwing mothers under the bus.

It is bad enough that every day women are doing it on these nasty internet forums, but we don’t need it on the front page of the news. Are you Mom Enough?  I am pretty sure when you cook a baby, parent it, give birth to it, or whatever you do to raise your kids… that is enough. (more…)

OH! You are STILL Nursing?

Monday, December 26th, 2011

Addison will be 8 months old on the 30th of this month. And it seems like in the past week, and through the holidays I have gotten the same question repeatedly from nearly everyone I came in contact with…

“Oh… she is still breastfeeding?”

Uh… she is only 8 months old… it is not like she is eating a four course meal, and chugging it down with a glass of wine… what would you expect her to be doing?

She BIT Me!

Tuesday, December 20th, 2011

She is adorable… everything about her! The smiles, the glares, the way she rubs her eyes when she is tired, and rubs my face when she nurses…

Then it happens, like a shark sniffing out human in the water… cue the Jaws theme… dun dun… dun dun… dun dun….

CHOMP!

Yeah… you heard! BIT! Read more at Baby’s First Year!

Mothers in England Stage Breastfeeding Flash Mob

Monday, December 19th, 2011

Other parts of the world look at breastfeeding like something women just do… never really much thought about it, no weird creepy feelings about a baby sucking on a sexualized breast. Just simply feeding a baby. Which is SOOOO how I wish it was here in America!

Unfortunately this group of women banded together because they needed to share awareness of breastfeeding rights, and of course promote widespread acceptance of nursing in public.
