Is Your Kids Sunscreen Toxic?

Thursday, May 2nd, 2013

sunscreen

When it comes to different sunscreens I am always a little hesitant to put much on my children. The same goes for soaps and shampoos. But I have become more relaxed since the EWG’s beauty database has been so widely available for parents everywhere.

On the EWG site you can look up any different product on the market for your children (and yourself) and the vast majority have been tested with the results listed for the world to see.

10 Things I Plan on “Accidentally” Losing During Our Move

Wednesday, March 20th, 2013

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAEvery parent has those toys we absolutely loathe. For some they are Barbies and maybe a talking baby doll. Others it may consist of Lincoln Logs and musical instruments.

We scheme and plot while their little eyes are fast asleep in dreamland hoping we can dispose of them before their slumber is broken. If your children are anything like mine, they always wake up and catch me mid-act and question where I am going with the annoying toy they haven’t paid any mind to in three months.

Motherhood Means Always Being the Vomit Parent

Friday, March 15th, 2013

file5671284825281If I had a dime for every vomit story I had with my three children, chances are I would be a lot more well off than I am now. Between the grocery store, our local diner,  multiple episodes in the car, and of course just in the comfort of our living room… there is a story for everyone!

But the other night when we had yet again, a vomit emergency in our house I realized something. No matter who tries to help your child when they are sick, whether it is a father, stranger, or even their grandfather. They only want one person.

Mommy.

I Don’t Allow Toy Guns in My House

Wednesday, March 13th, 2013

6559763047_276bc3aa65I think by now we already know where I stand on the gun control debate. I have been outspoken about it, especially in the aftermath of the local Sandy Hook school shooting where I lost a long time friend.

But beyond the recent events though, I have always stood by a strict no toy guns policy in my house. I haven’t bought any, and I have gone out of my way to ask family members not to purchase any either.

No NERF guns.
No cap guns.
No water guns.

valentinesday

Valentines Day is right around the corner!

Many of our toddlers are just starting to understand the holiday through pre-school classes, or just simply our household decorations. Others, like my oldest son are veterans at this point and are ready for the red hearts, candy and everything else that comes along with it.

Especially those little paper Valentines for school!

This Week on Babble

Friday, October 12th, 2012

I am doing my Babble wrap up a day early this week because I think I am going to try and take the weekend off from Blogging. My boys are heading to Canada for 5 days with their La La and Will on Friday (of next week) and I have a lot of preparing I need to get done, which I am going to focus on this weekend.

I also want to hit a movie, for the first time since the summer. Here is to hoping we can find a babysitter!

This week on Babble I put in a little more time than I have been. I miss writing every day on the site, so I thought I would give it a try. I made it four days in a row which is an accomplishment these days!

I interviewed Ben, found some great Halloween accessories on Etsy and much more. Check out the posts below and be sure to go join the conversation! (more…)

This Week on Babble

Saturday, September 22nd, 2012

I used to cross post all the posts I wrote for Babble here on my own site. While I really liked the idea, it was becoming hard for my readers to keep up with my content as well. It was a lot on a daily basis.

So, I decided instead I am going to do a weekly wrap up type post. A preview of the posts I wrote for the week on Toddler Times.

A “This week on Babble” wrap up. I have been really enjoying the luxury of posting on my own time recently. I feel like I am putting better material forward at this point. (more…)

Summer Reading for Moms!

Thursday, May 31st, 2012

Since my kiddos are in school this year we have taken on the summer reading challenge in our house. It is something I remember bitching about as a kid because I would rather be swimming all day long in the summer, not sitting down with a book that I would have to record on a sheet and report back to school with in September.

But with the new summer reading love in our house it has brought my own inner book worm out and I am on a mission myself, alongside my own children this summer to get my reading on!

I never took the time to see how many awesome books there are you can read!

Check out the awesome list here… and be sure to comment with books you would love to add!

Should Pre-School Be Free?

Wednesday, January 4th, 2012

I sometimes write for a local publication about issues parents are facing in Connecticut. Recently free pre-school programs became the topic of interest.

And quickly turned into a hot button issue full of mudslinging. Some parents accusing supporters of the idea of being welfare leaches, and well… you can get where the debate went!

Alas, most parents support the idea across the board-which is a total relief as a parent myself. I would never want a child to go without because someone may have a personal hangup about something. Would you?

Short Maternity Leave Leads to Long Term Problems

Wednesday, January 4th, 2012

Lets all say it together now…maternity leave in the United States sucks!

Ok… now that we all got that out of our system, lets talk about the problems our previous little ones can face because of the crappy maternity leave system we are saddled with.

Well for starters look at the amount of time most women take off from work. Some take as little as two weeks. No joke! I have known women who had no choice but to hurry back that quickly because of the serious loss of income in their household.

Read more of the impacts of short maternity leave, and leave your two cents over on Baby’s First Year!

A Short 8 Months

Monday, January 2nd, 2012

December 30th brought Addison’s eight month mark with our family. It is so hard to believe in only four months she will actually be an entire year old.

Where has all this time gone?

It seems like yesterday she was this tiny little 5 pounds bundle of fragile, and now she wants to play with her brothers, throw toys and chew on every last thing in our house. including my boobs. I wish I was joking!

Take a stroll over to Baby’s First Year to see how big Addison has gotten!!

5 Parenting Resolutions for the New Year

Monday, January 2nd, 2012

For me, 2012 is the year of organization.

Organization for the kids, my own life, for work… organization for my house. Everything needs to get organized before I lose the one ounce of sanity I have left.

So I knew I needed to set some goals, and priorities when it comes to my kids as well. They are the number one priority in our house!

Did you make any parenting resolutions for the year? Come over to Toddler Times and share them!

7 Reasons Parents Are Glad Christmas is OVER!

Monday, December 26th, 2011

I survived Christmas… by the skin of my teeth and with a horrible cold which has made my head feel like it is on the verge of exploding.

But I survived, the kids are happy, and this was really the first year our 2 year old understood what was going on, so having two out of three kids know how truly magical everything was… well it was just priceless.

But now I am starting to realize why big events such as Christmas are only once a year. Because honestly, if they were more often, we would not be celebrating.
