This week Marissa Mayer has been getting beat up in the media. I even chimed in along with other bloggers across the internet in a piece I wrote on The Broad Side called Reactions to Yahoo!’s No Telecommuting in the Work Place Policy.
But my post today has nothing to do with Yahoo! or telecommuting. It has nothing to do with the popular news this week. But it has everything to do with Marissa Mayer’s views on Feminism and the documentary film I watched on Tuesday night.
I sat down and watched MAKERS: Women Who Make America. It was moving to see all the hurdles women in America have made over the past fifty years alone. Paving the way for Fortune 500 CEO’s (and mothers) like Mayer to hold such a prestigious title. If we look back into the 1980′s, not only would Mayer be the wrong sex to hold her position, but she would also have been far too young. (more…)

In 2013, you don’t think you would hear a story of Federal rights being violated on such a large level. But for some women in America, their rights are not only being violated, but they are being murdered and then stomped into the ground by law makers, and officials in their area.
The National Advocate for Pregnant women published some ground breaking research on arrests and personhood laws impacting pregnant women across America since Roe V. Wade.
The problem here is, these women have legally done nothing wrong. There is no ground to have them arrested or prosecute them. In fact, many law makers are actually violating federal laws by passing their own local laws reflecting on personhood, or abortion rights. (more…)

It is 2012. I am sure we all know that just by looking at a calendar though, right?
We all expected flying cars and time travel. Unfortunately we can’t even advance medical technology enough to ensure all women make it through pregnancy and childbirth safely in our country. Which is an incredibly sad problem facing mothers all over America.
If we are being honest, this election season has brought the worst out in many candidates across the country. Especially when it comes to the hot button topic of abortion. But the shit really started to get deep when a Republican from IL suggested recently, that because of the great advances we have made in medical science, there is no longer a need for abortion due to the life of the mother. What in the FUCK is going on with America this week? Are we being Punk’d? Seriously? I feel like the amount of anti-woman stupidity that has been coming out of the Republican party this weeks has been a giant set up.
Because for real, in 2012, these type of anti-woman comments should not be even thought in an election year!
I want to start with Todd Akin. If you haven’t heard about his comments about rape by now, you probably live under a rock. But if you missed it, let me replay it for you… (more…)

If you have been a reader here for long, you will know I am a pretty strong pro-choice advocate. For those of you who are new I will spell it out very simply with two sentences.
I am pro-choice, not pro-abortion – I think all women should be able to make all their own medical decisions, no matter what.
I am a mother of three, one child which was very unplanned and unexpected, abortion was never and has never been an option for me. (more…)

Imagine this…
You are a pregnant women going through all of your routine prenatal testing and along the line your provider finds a life threatening fetal abnormality that could be fatal to you, or your unborn child. And they overlook it and don’t notify you of it.
Sounds like a scene from a bad movie right? (more…)

I think sometimes when you proclaim you are strongly pro-choice stereotypes are born. I have heard all varieties of judgement while having children and keeping my strong beliefs, I am not surprised about it though.
Yesterday my friend Courtney, One Bored Mommy wrote a really deep and heart felt post about a miscarriage she suffered and I started thinking about the beginning of my third pregnancy. The pregnancy which thankfully produced a healthy and beautiful little girl.
I think Courtney has become such a good friend of mine because we balance each other out on so many different levels. Just reading her post and what she has to say I am sure you will be able to see that for yourself. She is like the ying to my yang.
By the end of her post I was in tears which is expected when you are reading about such a hard topic to discuss. She said it best… (more…)
