Summer Reading Challenge: Week 1 Picks!
I was so excited when there was so much interest in the Summer Reading Challenge for moms! I put a lot of thought and work into it this week and actually made an awesome reading list on GoodReads.com for the summer to help me stay on track in between recommendations and suggestions from friends and family.
Since finishing up The Help last week, which was completely amazing in my opinion. I picked up a couple more books. Some shorter stories that are easy reads, and two long great reads. I wanted to share my two biggest recommendations since last time I updated my little pet project!
First I wanted to talk about Beautiful Disaster by Jamie McGuire. A friend (Beth) recommended it to me last week when we were both lamenting over the end of 50 Shades of Grey. I think once you read that you yearn for more whether or not you actually enjoyed the book.
I instantly fell in love with the main character Travis. He is the bad boy all the girls want. The motorcycle, tattoos… a romance novel I could totally get into just because he was a character I could relate to. The adventures, the age, everything. It brought me back a couple years to being a rebellious teen myself and running around with guys just like him.Thankfully for me the guys I was friends with had slightly more respect for some women, but that is a total other story.
The story is believable, and it was the first book I have read in a long time that actually made my stomach hurt and churn with each twist and turn. That is how you know it is a great book.
Two huge thumbs right up, and I can’t wait for the next book in the series to release! Hear that Jamie? Humor me! Please! I need more Travis! Ha!
The second book I read and loved was Slammed which I didn’t initially get into because the story line wasn’t like most of the romance novels out there. 18 year old Layken loses her father suddenly forcing her mother, and 9 year old brother to move half way across the country. She meets her hot neighbor, 21 year old Will Cooper and they instantly have this amazing connection. Not a crazy raunchy sexual escapade, a real romance mainly focusing around poetry.
Unforeseen circumstances rip them apart. Again another part that absolutely felt like someone kicked me right in the stomach. I read the book in two days because it was really just that awesome. I am going to be starting the second book in the series this week.
Those are my picks for the week! Be sure to link up below if you have blogged about the challenge, or wrote about an awesome book you would recommend this week!

have you ever read firefly lane by kristin hannah or divergent (which is similar to the hunger games, but not as good imo)?

I’ve almost finished the first book (one of the first books?) on my list, Timeline by Michael Crichton, and I read a Tony Hillerman murder mystery set on the Navajo reservation (I think it was The Blessing Way but I’ve read several recently and the titles get merged together since they’re all quite good).
