Summer Reading Challenge for Moms!

First it started with reading Heaven is Here by Stephanie Nielson, and then I got sucked into the Fifty Shades of Grey trilogy. After I finished those I started reading them a second time because it was like going through a bad break up.

Then a friend of mine gave me some book recommendations and another gave me a stack of New York Times best sellers that she was going to donate.

Everyone is aiding my new found love for reading. I just wish it had hit me years ago – maybe when I was still in school? Damn back then it was like pulling teeth, but maybe it was just the choice of books in high school?

Through all of this I have realized how relaxing reading can be. I joined Goodreads.com and made a list of books I want to read and have been following a ton of reader recommendations as well as recommendations from friends and started a list of books I think are good reads for the summer months.

My challenge to my readers is to read at least 10 books for the summer, and if you blog… blog about them and link up to this post about the reading challenge!

Below are some of my personal recommendations for reading this week!

I started reading The Help this week and while it seems to be a it of a slow start, it really will pull you in. This is also the same book that was made into an amazing award winning movie recently.  Although I suggest the book more than the movie itself.

The book itself is about African American maids working in white households in Jackson, Mississippi in the early 1960′s when the civil war was really starting to heat up in that area of the country.

A white woman takes a huge risk to follow her passion which includes building a close and personal relationship with several African American maids who just so happen to work for many of her friends.

While I am not finished with it, I am trucking through it and loving every moment!

As y’all probably read last week, I am loving the Fifty Shades of Grey trilogy. I read it a second time, and plan on reading it more in between books since I am going through serious withdrawal from Christian Grey.

Some of other books on my suggest reading include:

  • Bared to You – If you enjoy a good smut love story like Fifty Shades, this is something you will enjoy as well.
  • The Descendants – Another book made into a movie, it was given to me and it is the next book I plan on starting!
  • Gabby: A Story of Courage and Hope – I can’t wait to pick up Gabby Giffords book. I know it is going to be amazingly inspirational!

I also did a great post on Babble with tons of great reading suggestions. Some of the above are included, and some aren’t!

Don’t forget to link up if you want to participate!

  1. I am soooo “in”. Big book hound over here! And I have some great recommendations too – one of my bloggy indulgences is doing book reviews.

  2. I’m in. It’s high time to read something besides a textbook and my notes.
