Dads ARE Good for Something!

What is it with people constantly throwing fathers under the bus? It seems like commercials on television, mainstream media and now fathers themselves are trying to lower their own value and frankly, it pisses me off.

Yesterday I came across a post on The Stir which I shared with my husband. By the time he was done reading it, he looked at me and said “Fuck you” because of course he thought the sole purpose of me sharing it was to accuse him of only being a great farter and creating a never ending supply of laundry and stains.

The post, which is apparently written by a father himself could totally be considered funny, if you are down for laughing at the lack of value on the American father, or the fact that there are a ton of fathers who are not active in the lives of the children they helped produce.

10 Things Dads Do Way Better Than Moms” includes: Farting, Sleeping, Ignoring Screams, Going Out to Dinner, Peeing in the Snow, Creating Laundy and Making Stains. Wow, congrats Dads… you guys really are a bunch of all stars.

What about the Dads who are better at cuddles, or fixing a boo-boo. The dads that are better at playing or rough housing. The dads that go out of their way to plan activities for their kids on the one day off they have a week. All the good fathers do like changing diapers, feeding their children, taking all the kids on a Sunday morning to the store, or to get breakfast so Mommy can sleep in or have some time to herself.

Where is the good of fatherhood?

I guess I am just sick of the constant fact that our society throws fathers under the bus and assumes they are just babysitters and not parents.

And my husband, a full time and super involved father of three was completely turned off by the post. He found absolutely nothing funny about it.

Another reason why I find myself wondering why I even take the time to look at anything The Stir posts these days.

One Response to “Dads ARE Good for Something!”

  1. The Stir, as a general rule, is an online rag with no more journalistic integrity than The Enquirer. They are strictly for entertainment purposes only, and you have to really picky which links you click, otherwise you’ll wind up reading nothing but sad garbage about crazy fathers who cut off their own son’s penises, and grandmothers who get so drunk they leave the infants they care for in their carriers on the side of the road for hours. I don’t take anything they say seriously, and neither does anyone with at least the intelligence of the common house cat. Your husband has nothing to fear. Sensible people know better.
