An Open Letter to Mitt Romney
Dr. Mr. Romney,
Before I even dip into my letter, I would like to explain to you that it is Tuesday, I have a house full of miserable children with colds, and they have passed along their gift of golden snot and stuffed noses to me.
That being said, you have officially pissed me the fuck off. I used to think I liked you. Mormon, extremely liberal for a Republican, oh… and you were one of the most pro-choice politicians out there. To the point that NARAL even backed you in your Governorship in Massachusetts. To me, that is a pretty damn big deal.
But, it seems like the Republican party has made a big mistake. Maybe an even bigger mistake than bringing out the secret weapon Sarah Palin in 2008.
The picked you. They nominated you as the Republican candidate for President and since the Republican National Convention you have done nothing but put your foot in your own mouth. Whether it was about taxes, your opponent President Obama, or foreign affairs. If we are really being honest here, you disgusted me when you used the death of Americans in Libya as a springboard for your campaign. Which clearly backfired.
But yesterday took the cake. I wasn’t really offended till I heard your video about all those who voted or will vote for Obama. Now, let me tell you a little something about my family. We are a two parent household. Both of us work. Both of us pay taxes (in large amounts I may add!) and we both bust our asses for everything we have. We do not take any government hand outs. We do not feel as though we are “entitled” to anything. We work hard, and we voted democrat. Even my husband who served in our military and fought for his country.
Heck, I even campaigned for Obama in 2008. Went to the local high school and helped register high school seniors who would be 18 by November to vote. I was dedicated, and I still am. Why?
Because we are better off than we were four years ago. Before Obama took office, my husband lost his job. UNDER BUSH. The economy collapsed, and so did the industry he worked in. He busted his ass looking for a job, most of which he was told he was overqualified for during the almost full year he was laid off. I went back to work outside the home, despite the fact that I was pregnant. We made it work no matter what we had to do. Like most people do.
During the term of President Obama, he finally not only found a job, but excelled and is now a supervisor. We have a steady household. We ARE better off than we were four years ago, as are most hard working Americans.
47%. The 47% that will vote for President Obama are hard working, tax paying citizens who cannot relate to your lack of concern for the poor, or the families impacted by the economy. The same economy people like you with your off shore bank accounts and tax dodging helped kill.
When I think about the President, I think of someone who is concerned with every American citizen, not just those who will vote for him, or don’t take any kind of government assistance. The citizens who are elderly and worked their entire lives for their benefits, or the US military members who served to earn those benefits.
I am not sure why you decided to run for President, but it is clear from your remarks about the poor and middle class, that you are not the right man for the job.
Signed,
Mormon Mother of Three in Connecticut.

Well said!
Amen sister.
Cheers to that! I seriously cannot believe how many times this man has inserted his foot into his mouth! Certainly not a man I’d like to run our country, that’s for sure!
Nicely done, Michelle. I would like to add that it seems that it is Romney and his cronies, the super-wealthy, who are the whiners and the ones who feel “entilted”. Entitled to rule, entitled to get huge tax breaks, entitled to ship jobs over seas, entitled to cheap labor– entitled to government bailouts for their giant corporations– entitled to a safe environment in which to make their billions– an infrastructure created and maintained by the rest of us– I could go on and on. Their arrogance is stunning.
I have never taken anything from the government nor has my family nor do we want to or expect to. We have worked and worked hard for everything we have. Unfortunately, because of the state of the economy, many simply have no choice. They desperately want to work but can’t find a job, anywhere. I’ve seen it first hand and dealt with it daily in a job I worked since October, 2011 until July, 2012. Day in and day out the same story. People who had good jobs, have a good education, and yet, can’t find work, can’t pay their bills, can’t support their homes and families. And what does the government do, call these people lazy. Are you f’ng kidding me. Come work in the office I worked in for close to a year and then we will talk. These people were NOT lazy, not by a long shot. They would have done anything for a job, and most were let go from jobs where between work and commute they put in a good 10 to 12 hour day, sometimes 14 hours. Not exactly lazy in my book.

Bravo! My mom is one of those so called “victims”. But Romney lacks the nuance of empathy and understanding, to realize she is not a victim because of a lack of “personal responsibility” but because someone hit her while she was riding a motorcycle, minding her own business. She can never work again, and is really lucky to be alive. This comment is one of the most hateful generalizations he has made to date.
I could NOT believe he said that!
Thank you so much for this honest testimony. I agree with every last thing you said.
the way I see it is that DH and I work hard, we pay our taxes, and part of that goes to public health care and assistance, If I need it, I will use it, I do not need it so I don’t, but if we are laid off and are going through a hard time, I will not hesitate to get some help, because my taxes are paid towards it for that reason, it is there when I need it. The other issue is this is America.. why the heck are we not “entitled” to health care? I believe health care is a basic human right.. I do not see why so many parents go sick so their children can see a dr. or go hungry so they can provide their kids with medical care ect. This is not Mulasia, it is the USA.. we should not rank so low in health care. What about all of us with underwater mortgages that need to sell our homes but have to decide to take a credit hit on a short sale, stay trapped in a home that is too small, in a bad area, and too far from our jobs.. If Romney gets into office nothing is going to help that. I personally feel that Americans need to help each other, this should not be a game of the rich ganging up on the poor.. If I was rich I would want nothing more than to help out my fellow less fortunate Americans.
